Over the past four years, Metal Design Systems, Inc. had the privilege of working on the nationally renowned University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, a vital facility for the community and medical field. MDSI divided the four-and-a-half-year project into five smaller architectural projects, improving scheduling and communication.
The project involved over 2,600 panels and 62,000 square feet of material, with custom unitized assemblies required in many areas. These included a unique attachment system for soffits and vertical slots along the hospital’s full height. The building’s elliptical shape and complex features, such as the 12th-floor sloped soffit and canopy curves, required innovative solutions. MDSI collaborated with Heery Design, utilizing Alucoil’s ACM Larson and honeycomb Larcore products. We are honored to have contributed to this impactful project.
